Government Moves To Crack Down On Market Manipulators And Sugar Hoarders

According to sources on Thursday 20th of June 2025, the Pakistani government has decided to take tough measures against sugar hoarders and speculators.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has authorized a broad crackdown to stop a fake increase in sugar prices.

Take Strict Action
Full authority to act has been extended to important organizations, such as the “Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), State Bank of Pakistan, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Financial Institutions Authority (FIA)”.
Sources further disclosed that agencies have been instructed to take inflexible action against individuals engaged in cartelization, stockpiling, and artificial price manipulation.
“Raids, arrests, and other severe measures will be part of the measures.”
Plannings Are Done
Massive operations legal actions are planned in the days ahead, and authorities have already increased their operations.
It should be mentioned before that the Pakistani government permitted sugar millers to export sugar as long as the rate remained stable.
According to sources, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif directed an investigation on sugar hoarding on March 14th, 2025, after noticing rising prices.
The directive was given during an official meeting to review sugar prices and supplies throughout Pakistan, which was headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz.
