KARACHI- The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on May 30, predicted severe monsoon conditions in various regions across Pakistan and advised to avoid unnecessary outgoing. Officials recorded fatalities and injuries of persons across regions on the same day.

The first phase of Monsoon:

The PMD predicted that the 2025 monsoon will carry a heavy rainy season, leading from normal to below-normal average rainfall. It is expected that the central and southern parts of Pakistan will mostly be affected. The heavy rainfall may cause flooding in the mountains and plains.

The rainfall in Kashmir and northeastern Punjab may vary from the normal range. The PMD stated that it might cross from the normal range, while KPK and Gilgit Baltistan may not be affected by this monsoon. Here, the rainfall range would be normal or below normal.

Monsoon leads to environmental fluctuation:

The PMD predicted that the 2025 monsoon will add fluctuation to the normal functioning of the natural environment. Punjab, Sindh, KPK, and Gilgit Baltistan hilly and plain areas can face flooding. The flooding may exceed the limit, thus filling the rivers adequately. In addition, there may be a chance of strong winds and hail storms all over the country.

The water abundance may be helpful for the irrigation department and energy sectors to meet the water needs of the country. It is a chance for these departments to secure water for future use.

Casualties due to Monsoon:

The KPK Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) pointed out that eight people were killed and 21 people were injured due to the heavy rainfall in various districts of the region. Moreover, in Punjab, 28 people were affected, including 3 deaths, and the rest of the people got injured.

The severe monsoon region damages the infrastructure of houses and buildings, vehicles and public properties. There was a power failure in many cities, and transmission lines snapped.

PMD advise in monsoon:

The PMD warned of the severity of the weather early to avoid unrest. The department also called out the rescue sectors to work with the local authorities and relief team to tackle the unrest before it happens. Moreover, citizens are also advised to stay inside in monsoon. The district administrations across the country are also on high alert to critically examine the weather situation and immediately respond accordingly.
