Pigeon-Linked Lung Illness Cases Rise In Karachi

According to health experts, the number of instances of lung illness associated with pigeon infection has alarmingly increased, especially among women in Karachi.
According to information, hospitals have been getting “15 to 20 new patients per week” who have been diagnosed with “Bird Fancier’s Lung”, a condition associated with pigeon-linked lung illness.
In addition “Microscopic particles from pigeon feathers and droppings can build up in the human respiratory system, causing allergic responses and lung inflammation”, according to pulmonologist Dr. Muhammad Irfan.

Long-term exposure can cause a serious and ongoing lung disease. Although feeding pigeons is a regular sight in Karachi, particularly in public places, medical specialists have stressed that there are serious risks to health associated with this activity.
Additionally, concealed “pigeon nests, windows, and air-conditioned spaces” can all contain pollution. Doctors advise wearing masks around pigeons and avoiding direct contact with them to stay away from illness.
Signs And Symptoms
Usually, the illness starts with fever, exhaustion, shortness of breath, continuous coughing, and uneasiness.
The sickness may not be recognized until it has gotten worse since the symptoms sometimes reflect lesser respiratory problems.
In more severe situations, “oxygen therapy, steroids, or even a lung transplant may be necessary”. Physicians advise anyone showing symptoms to see a pulmonologist as soon as possible.
