Israel strikes Hodeidah after warning:

Israel targeted areas near the Red Sea. The attacks came shortly after Israel warned civilians to leave Ras Isa, Hodeidah, and Salif. These points are under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi movement. The Israeli military believes the Houthis are using these ports to launch operations, including missile attacks, with support from Iran. The airstrikes follow the interception of a missile launched from Yemen that was heading toward Israel.

Conflicting claims about the attacks:

The Houthi-run interior ministry confirmed the attack had taken place. However, Nasruddin Amer. A spokesperson for the Houthi-controlled Saba news agency denied any such strikes occurred at the ports. So far, Israel has not issued an official comment on the matter.

Regional tensions heating up:

US President Donald Trump is preparing for a visit to the region, and his administration had only recently launched a renewed military campaign against the Houthis on March 15. That campaign targeted Houthi strongholds throughout Yemen. Although Oman later brokered a ceasefire deal. The Houthis made it clear that their truce did not include Israel.

Ongoing Houthi attacks on Israel:

Despite the ceasefire with the United States, the Houthis have continued to fire missiles and send drones toward Israel. They have also attacked key shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis claim these actions are a show of support for the Palestinians in Gaza, where conflict continues to rage. These maritime attacks are raising concerns for global trade. Disruptions in this area could have ripple effects on global supply chains.

US efforts to calm the waters:

President Trump announced a week earlier to the attack that the Houthis had agreed to stop targeting international shipping lanes. However, ongoing Houthi activity and retaliatory Israeli strikes suggest that tensions remain far from resolved. Israel has responded with multiple airstrikes in Yemen to weaken Houthi military capabilities.
