On Wednesday, 10th of July 2024, according to sources and Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV, talks to establish a truce in the Gaza conflict will restart in Doha. The intelligence heads of Israel, the US, and Egypt will be present. As per a high source pointed out by Al-Qahera News, the Egyptian security team in Doha, headed by intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, would be “on a mission to bring opinions more close among Hamas and Israel in order to come to a ceasefire agreement as quickly as possible.” Further, the insider stated, “There is agreement over multiple points,” and added that the talks will resume in Cairo on Thursday, 11th of July 2024. Responding to a media inquiry, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office refused to comment. Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency William Burns will also be there, a person with knowledge of the situation informed reporters. Burns met with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt on Tuesday, 9th of July, in Cairo. According to a statement from the presidency, Sisi underlined Egypt’s view of “denying the continued operation of military in the Gaza Territory at the meeting.” To put an end to the 9-month dispute that exists between Israel and Hamas and secure the release of Israeli captives in Gaza in return for Palestinian prisoners arrested in Israel, Egypt and Qatar have taken the lead in mediating the conflict.
When Hamas made compromises the previous week, senior US officials travelled to the region to speak out for a ceasefire. However, the Palestinian organization acknowledged that a fresh Israeli attack on Gaza on Monday, the 8th of July, put at risk ceasefire negotiations at a turning point, and it asked mediators to hold Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu more responsible. According to the president, Sisi highlighted during their conversation that serious and effective steps must be taken to stop the Gaza crisis from spreading throughout the region.
