Hacking of WhatsApp is on the Upswing

Hacking of WhatsApp

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) released warnings to the public as hacking of WhatsApp accounts has grown significantly. The FIA’s cybercrime section suggested the hackers had used advanced techniques to get illegal access to accounts. In a public statement, a Federal Investigation Agency representative stated that the agency has detected an alarming rise in WhatsApp hacking cases, with hackers mostly targeting women’s accounts. “The hackers are utilizing phishing (a type of social engineering and fraud in which attackers trick individuals into giving important information or downloading software such as ransomware) to get access to accounts,” the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told the public.

In this manner, the agency warned WhatsApp users to be careful of unusual messages and links and to set up two-factor authentication to protect their accounts. “Avoid opening messages, images, clips, or data sent from unfamiliar numbers,” the FIA’s warning stated. It also advised WhatsApp users to examine and update their privacy settings routinely. The agency advised individuals to report hijacked accounts using the hotline in 1991 or by visiting the local Federal Investigation Agency circle.

According to previous reports, WhatsApp is reportedly working out an updated function for Mac users that enables them to post messages and status updates direct from their desktops. This upgrade comes shortly after the introduction of similar capabilities for Android smartphones. WhatsApp users may now exchange pictures, videos, GIFs, written content, and voice communications through status updates from any associated device. Based on the newest WhatsApp beta for Mac version 24.11.73, which is readily available on the TestFlight app, beta testers may now submit status updates directly from their Macs’ status bar.
