Balochistan suffers the impact of severe flash floods and rainy season
Heavy rain caused damage in multiple areas of Balochistan, with sudden flooding affecting many districts in the southwestern province. Harnai and surrounding regions are experiencing floods in local rivers and nullahs due to lost land connectivity with various locations. For the fourth continuous day, traffic was not able to be reopened on the (Harnai Quetta) Punjab route. Quetta had a total of 33 millimetres of rain in the previous (24) hours, while Sibbi received 28 millimetres. Dalbandin and Zhob received 19 millimetres, Kalat received 16 millimetres, Sumingli received 11 millimetres, Barkhan received 7 millimetres, Lasbela received 5 millimetres, and Nokundi received 2 millimetres.
On Monday, April 15th, powerful and robust winds stormed across (Gwadar, Kech, Panjgur, and Turbat). The flooding has destroyed the railway track, causing traffic to be suspended on the (Sibi Harnai) railway line for the second day. Railway authorities have stated that repairs to the track have begun. According to the (Chagai district) government, a few vehicles transporting people on picnics were carried away in flood waters.

The cars collapsed but the people inside were rescued by escaping to neighboring hills,” the district administration said. Even a tiny dam (Toba Kakari, Pishin) experienced a break. “The the Pacific Disaster Management Agency and irrigation department officials poured soil around the dam and strengthened it,” DC (Deputy Commissioner) Jumadad Mandokhel explained. “After fortyeight years, the outer half of the dam has been filled with soil”. Floodwaters from the Nari River in (Naseerabad) district have reached Bala Nari. Locals have been moved to more secure locations.

Meanwhile, (Mithri’s) wheat harvest, which covered many acres, has been ruined by flooding. Following disastrous flash floods in Balochistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) is expecting further rain. Whenever the Meteorological Department projected further rain in Balochistan, the first set of rainfall had not yet ended. The Met Office predicts that the province will see further rain till April 19th. The Balochistan government recently declared a rainfall and urban flooding emergency in response to the province’s ongoing heavy rain, which has killed and injured many people, according to a government official on Monday, April 15th.
