6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Afghanistan

KABUL: On Monday, authorities confirmed that a magnitude 6.0 earthquake had hit Afghanistan. Many people got injured, while the rest left fearful. The authorities said that the rescue operation to save the injured has continued.
Overview of the 6.0 earthquake in Afghanistan:
Health authorities in Kabul said that the death toll is not confirmed yet, though the operation has started. There are areas in Afghanistan that always suffer from natural disasters. The authorities said that the rescue team has been approaching these areas to save the lives of the people.
Bakhtar news agency said, “Nearly 250 people have been reported martyred and over 530 injured across Kunar and Laghman provinces. According to officials from the Disaster Management Department in Kunar, the most severely impacted districts include Noor Gul, Chawkay, Watapur, Mano Gai, and Chapa Dara.”

Aside from the State-run news agency, local news agencies also confirmed the death toll. According to the Tolo news, around 250 people lost their lives, while 500 people were wounded. Most of them belong to the areas of Nurgal, Sawkay, Watapur, Manogi, and Chapa Dara.
In a statement by Tolo, citing the Natural Disaster Preparedness Authority in Kunar, “They add that the numbers of dead and injured are not final, and communication is still ongoing with residents in remote areas.”
Afghanistan Ministry Spokesperson Sharafat Zaman warned of further casualties in the affected areas. He said, “Figures from just a few clinics show over 400 injured and dozens of fatalities.”
The Afghan government is very active and continuously carrying the wounded to the hospitals through helicopters. Visuals are viral on the Internet showing Afghans helping the soldiers to carry the wounded to the ambulances.
According to the Health Ministry, three villages of Kunar were completely razed. The Provincial Information Head of Kunar also reported that 250 people have died and 500 have been injured due to this earthquake.
A foreign office spokesperson said, “So far, no foreign governments have reached out to provide support for rescue or relief work.” Rescuers are also roaming near the border to see if people need any help there.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal took to his social media account. He said, “My deepest condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones, and heartfelt prayers for full and quick recovery of those injured. This immense sorrow is felt by us all.”
